Serving in Mexico
In 1994 we were asked to go to Oaxaca, Mexico where I was to serve as computer support consultant for the translators down there to replace someone who was on furlough. When he decided not to return to Mexico we had the great opportunity to stay on and we jumped at it, considering how we had fallen in love with the country and the people. During our nearly four years there, we served at the translation and linguistic center in Mitla, Oaxaca. After a couple of years of computer consulting I became the Center Administrator and really enjoyed that job. We went with no training in speaking Spanish so had to learn on the job. While we finally learned how to communicate with the people, I don't recommend that to anyone. We had to return to the US in 1997 and stay stateside because of family sickness, but we definately hope to be able to return to Mexico someday. Our fondest memories of serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators revolve around our years in Mexico. We praise the Lord for granting to us the "desires of our heart" to serve in Mexico.
